So, you think you have a plan for your website do you?

The article asks questions of the developer client relationship planning process after the event and begs the question of why bother with a web site at all if you have not looked at these key areas.

So I presume that you covered your presence on social media, your email nurturing, keep in touch, referral and key account management programmes and that all of these are woven into your website strategy. All of them will feed people into your website and they will expect different things from it when you get there.

I presume you both did a full competitor analysis to find out how to get your site found above them on search engines. That you both worked out what offer to use to get customers to engage with you and what collateral (brochures etc.) you need to integrate in look and feel with your site. 

I presume he worked with you to work out all of the vertical markets you operate in and how to appeal to those effectively. You'll have worked out that your offer is subtly different in each of these markets and designed several versions of your website to appeal more strongly to each group. You'll both have identified the customers who will really influence your website visitors (again different for each market) and done a feature on these, got a link from their website and some powerful quotations to persuade customers that if it did a wonderful job for your customer it can do it for them too.circleoflife

You both will have looked through your CRM solution and found the white spaces - the areas where you have a killer proposition but haven't got this across to customers. You'll have identified several core areas where you aim to do better and set out programmes to do so. 

You'll have set out targets for every page in terms of page views, click throughs and conversion to sale. You'll have gone into depth on which analytics tools to use to make sure you achieve this uplift in sales and identify areas for further improvement. 

Then your designer set out to create a website which is the hub of a powerful and measurable lead generation programme. 

Can you let us know how you did all those things with your web designer without getting charged a lot more than his standard fee?

Or maybe, like every other web designer, he found out enough to do a website you'd be happy with - one which is backward looking and encapsulates what you do today, not what you want to do tomorrow. One which treats the web as a standalone - more vanity publishing really than a business tool. 

I hope I'm wrong...

Whilst chasing unpaid invoices - which we seem to have to do every day!!!! - We got this rather amusing reply - still, its a bit annoying that we have to chase people for payment as it kinda disincentivises us!

 

Hello Andrew, I can confirm that your invoice has been received and is now embarking on the hugely drawn out process of assessment by the marketing department, then by the financial Dept, then passed to the board and then finally to the president before being entered into the ballot for Payment which takes place every 3rd leap year as you know.
Notifications on un-successful invoices are not given.
