OK, I have spent some 30 minutes researching this - that, let me tell you - is a long time on the web!

What makes a social media expert?

Well, I actually do not know.  I am NOT an expert - far from it but, I do know that Social Media works - it works because people are people - they are inquisitive, and they like short, sharp shocks, how do I know this? I have worked with many successful people and the most often phrase I hear from them is; "Give me the highlights"- that is where Social Media -especially Twitter and Facebook come into their own - status updates are necessarily short and some - if you know some of my friends are definitely shocking!

If you have ever used Face Book  - LinkedIn or any of the multitude of other social networking sites, you will know that the major corporates - globally - are using Social Networking to increase their already good exposure. So, why are you sitting there and not using Social Networking to your advantage?

Is it because there are too many "experts" pushing it?

Is it because you have INTERNET overload and just need to get on with running your business?

Or simply, you just do not know where to start?

So, if companies are employing and desperately advertising for people just to be a social media marketing manager - where on earth will it all stop?

Can you be an expert on Facebook - when it is only 6 years old, or Twitter, when it is only 3 years old? Or is it the latest way for us poor Marketers to scrape a living together? - It has certainly made an impact on our business and, others that were "Marketing Experts" are now concentrating solely on Social Media Marketing  and Training and earning a very good living out of it.

My view is that no one can be an expert in such a fast moving arena - we can of course know a lot about a given field but, what we can be is an advisor, a learner, a person who likes social networking and sees the value in getting  your message out there - I am no expert, but, if Circa 400 million users are on Facebook alone - you surely have to exploit that - don't you?
